Product Owner

Role Summary

The Technology department is key to the future success of our business and due to the growth and success of the business we’re growing and investing in our Technology team. We’re now hiring a Product Owner as a new addition to the team, who will responsible for a varied portfolio of products which ranges from websites and mobile apps to internal tools and Facebook chatbots.

This role would suit someone who is looking for a unique opportunity to work directly with the Founders and senior stakeholders to help innovate, solidify and shape the vision of our products.

You’ll be working with developers, UX designers, data scientists and graphic designers to drive product thinking and user-centred design across the business. We have huge plans and ambitious targets for this year, and an opportunity to reach millions of people with our work.

 

Key Objectives

  • Drive forward the product-thinking mind-set and culture
  • Create and deliver product strategy to stakeholders based on user research and market understanding
  • Liaise with all areas of the business and directly with our Founders and the senior management team to gather requirements, scope and align interests
  • Maximise value delivery via effective, collaborative and transparent prioritisation of the development backlog
  • Become the expert on the product and the market, providing support to other functions within the business.

          

Responsibilities

  • Lead the process of creating a product vision, including overall goals and KPIs
  • Foster innovation within your product area, helping nurture new ideas and bring them to life
  • Shape the product roadmap and work with the delivery team to develop an actionable project plan 
  • Gather requirements and scope the development work
  • Market research, competitor analysis, user research and outreach; using insight and data to drive the decision-making process
  • Design experiments to test new features or ideas, and work with data scientists and UX experts to analyse the results and determine the best course of action
  • Identify and manage stakeholder groups to align interests, resolve conflict and keep the business moving down the best path
  • Influence, persuade and negotiate at all levels; effectively communicate status, progress and plans to create a shared understanding
  • Produce written reports on product progress and measuring success against agreed KPIs
  • Work on multiple products simultaneously, balancing focus according to priorities and return on investment.

 

The Person

  • Proven experience in a product management or product owner role (or proven experience in a business analyst or similar role), with demonstrable experience of having a positive impact on multiple projects
  • Experience of working in an Agile environment (either Scrum or Kanban) and in cross-functional teams
  • A genuine passion for product ownership and an understanding of the Lean approach
  • Excellent people skills for influencing, persuading, negotiating and collaboration
  • A high standard of self-organisational skills, along with a proactive approach to keep things moving forward
  • A solid understanding of the technology required to produce websites, apps and the latest innovations.
  • Strong management experience for managing teams and direct reports, including carrying out appraisals, recruiting, coaching and developing whilst installing company values, culture and processes.

 

Desirable

  • Previous experience in publishing and/or media preferred but not essential
  • A background in software engineering (either hands-on experience or relevant education) 
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Roadmunk, Aha or other product management tools
  • Practical experience of using Lean to shape product strategy and roadmap
